Colorado’s lawmakers are considering a bill that would allow the state’s cities and counties to set their own minimum wage rates. If it passes, cities and counties would have to pass their own ordinances if they want their minimum wage rates to exceed the state’s.
Interviewed for a Law Week Colorado article on the proposed measure, Denver partner Todd Fredrickson pointed out that it’s questionable how many jurisdictions would take it upon themselves to enact a higher minimum wage. Further, he said, small employers would disproportionately feel the burden of managing multiple pay rates across jurisdictions.
