In an interview with Business Insider, Risa Boerner, co-chair of Fisher Phillips Privacy and Cyber practice, shares her insight on whether employers can require their employees to turn on their webcams during the workday and provides best practices for employers navigating these situations. She explains that asking an employee to keep their camera on can be analogized to employers asking employees to attend meetings in pre-COVID times. Risa also notes that more states may follow New York with its new employee monitoring law. “The law requires private-sector employers to provide notice of electronic monitoring practices to all employees when they're hired and in a place where all employees can see the notice."
