Danielle S. Urban offered insight to www.CSMonitor.com for an article called “Courts, US Public at Odds Over Worker Firings for 'Legal' Marijuana Use.”
Recreational marijuana use will soon be legal in Colorado and Washington come 2014. Individuals will be permitted to buy and possess up to an ounce of marijuana. Some companies are now considering whether to adjust their personnel policies.
“Employers big and small across the state are really struggling with these questions,” says Danielle. “They have to come up with testing protocols that don’t alienate their own employees but cover themselves from liability, as well," she says. "Most are wishing legislators had given them more direction.”
Danielle and many others say answers to many of these questions are likely to be clarified in court cases in coming years.
