Immigration Law Boot Camp 2.0: Customize Your Program to Fit Your Needs
Join our immigration attorneys for a discussion about employment-based immigration eligibility in 2016.
Agenda
11:15 – 11:30 a.m. – Registration
11:30 – 12:00 p.m. – Lunch and Immigration Overview
We will begin our program with a general overview of the filing procedures, filing deadlines and issues facing employers in 2016. Whether you are a first-time filer or a seasoned vet, this session will discuss the foundation and current state of employment-based immigration law in the United States in 2016.
12:15 – 1:00 p.m. – Breakout Session – select your topic:
H-1B Visas
In November, 2014, President Obama issued a number of executive orders designed to, among other things, make it easier for highly-skilled workers (those holding H1-B visas) to change jobs, allow spouses of highly-skilled workers to obtain employment, and clarify the standards applicable to the L-1 visa program, which allows multi-national companies to transfer employees who are managers, executives, or have “specialized knowledge.” We will discuss if this indeed, occurred in 2015 and what employers can expect from the process in 2016, plus give some practical advice for those who plan to file for these visas this year.
I-9 Audits
Our lawyers will discuss a critical element of every employer’s regulatory compliance: properly completing and maintaining I-9 employment eligibility verification forms for each employee. Why? Because I-9 compliance errors can be very costly and can include jail time for employers who knowingly hire undocumented workers (not to mention legal fees and lost productivity). Our lawyers will lead an in-depth discussion of what you need to do to comply with I-9 filing requirements – including what could happen if you don’t.
