Between 2008 and 2012, patents granted to Massachusetts companies and individuals rose 37 percent — a rate second only to California.

As criminal enterprises become more technologically sophisticated, so must corporate security measures. Increasingly, companies are turning to biometrics — facial and voice recognition, iris scans, finger and palm prints. The days of the photo ID name badge are gone, Joseph explained.
