MSHA Violations Tracker
This MSHA Violations Tracker includes a comprehensive dataset of violations that have occurred since January 1, 2022 as reported by the Department of Labor.
The Violations by Negligence Level graph provides a breakdown of violations by negligence level as defined by 30 C.F.R. Part 100. For more information on negligence level, please review Mining MSHA - What is Negligence?
The Violations by S&S Designation pie chart indicates whether or not the gravity is determined by the inspector to be significant and substantial. If this is a Yes, the inspector has indicated that based upon the particular facts surrounding the violation there exists a reasonable likelihood the hazard contributed to or will result in an injury or illness of a reasonably serious nature.
The Violations by Mine Type visual shows the percent of mine types in our dataset and the percent of violations issuance to each of those mine types, which allows for a comparison of violations by mine type based on the number of mines in each category
The Violations by Type of Issuance table provides a count of the type of issuance by Section of the Mine Act which is the authority for the action taken as well as a breakdown of those violations by negligence level.
