Portland Attorney Discusses Status of Unions Following Janus Decision
In her bylined piece for the Daily Journal of Commerce Oregon titled “After the Levee Breaks: Unions in a Post-Janus World,” Portland associate Lisa Vickery discusses how the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision in Janus v. AFSCME, Council 31 impacts unions. Public sector unions lost a valuable revenue stream – fair share fees – once the decision was published, and now, only union members are paying dues, while their non-union member coworkers pay nothing for the same benefits. As Lisa notes, unions must now demonstrate their value to retain membership while cutting back on expenses.
