But following the recent economic downturn — coupled with longer life spans, healthier employees and an often more rewarding work environment — employees are opting to work into their 70s and even 80s, ensuring there are several generations of employees working alongside one another at any given time.

As a result, different generations have differing needs and expectations, and these factors can collide to create an uncomfortable work environment.
