Overview
Inspired by his burgeoning human resources career, Steven attended law school with the goal of becoming a labor and employment attorney. Now, as an associate in the San Diego office, he provides legal advice and defends clients on a variety of labor and employment issues. Based on his first-hand experience as a director of human resources, Steven understands that clear, concise communication is key, and he partners with clients to not just resolve the immediate issue but also prevent similar problems from arising again. He understands that organizations want to do right by their employees—not just the right legal thing, but also the right thing. And, due to his long career in non-profit organizations, he understands how to be resourceful and cost-conscious, no matter the size of his client’s budget.
During law school, Steven externed for the Honorable Virginia M. Kendall in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He also received honors competing in the University of Southern California Gould School of Law’s Hale Moot Court Honors Program; he was one of four finalists and received an award for Best Petitioner’s Brief. Steven also developed his appellate skills while clerking for a law firm that appealed adverse veterans’ compensations benefits decisions. He drafted arguments heard by the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.
Before entering the practice of law, Steven was the sole HR Director for a quickly growing trade organization and served in various management roles for non-profit arts organizations.
