Why You Should Check Your Politics at the Office Door?
Thomas Cox was interviewed by 11 Alive on February 26, 2016. In the interview, Thomas discussed how in this political season, expressing your opinions at work could put your job in jeopardy.
"You have to be careful," said Thomas. "For private-sector employees there's no right of free speech covered in the First Amendment."
He said political discussions at work can become intense and lead to debates about race, religion and other sensitive topics.
"Employers can terminate the employment relationship for any reason or no reason at all, so long as it's not a discriminating reason or a reason-based on a legally-protected status." Thomas added. "Unfortunately, political discussions don't fall in that category."
