Managers Of Virtual Workforce Need Training
Peter Gillespie was quoted in the SHRM.org September 11, 2014 article "Managers Of Virtual Workforce Need Training."
Despite some hurdles, managers should be reminded that telecommuting is a workable arrangement if the manager is doing everything in an even-handed way, noted Peter.
That means the manager shouldn’t single out someone for micromanagement or engage in overbearing communication or say anything inappropriate. Ideally, communication should be regular, and deadlines regularly met, he said.
The employee will develop trust that he or she really is in line with reasonable expectations, he added. The manager won’t feel like he or she is being blown off, and the “employee will not feel like she is lost in the wilderness or spinning her wheels.”
