Businesses Unsure About Proposed Changes in OT Rules
Bob Kilgore was quoted on KSAT 12 on July 2, 2015. The segment “Big Changes in Overtime Pay, Big Challenges for Companies” discussed how various businesses are unsure of how the new proposed regulations, regarding eligibility for overtime pay, could affect their salaried employees.
Bob said the effect could be dramatic, “Primarily small businesses which really are the backbone of the economy.”
Bob said the options are limited.
“They’re either going to have to significantly increase the salaries that they pay their supervisors or they’re going to have to change their economic model completely,” Bob said.
Bob said he advises business owners to contact their federal lawmakers, trade associations or chambers of commerce to voice their opinions during the 90-day comment period.
He also said employees expecting raises should be patient since the change, if adopted, may not take effect until 2016 at the earliest.
